Trakka Achieves Silver Gumnut Award

Trakka Campervans and Motorhomes at Kuring-gai were recently presented with a Silver Gumnut Award in recognition of their commitment to sustainable business practices at the 2012 Caravan and Camping Awards of Excellence Gala Dinner, on 25th July at the Fairmont Resort, Leura.

Lyndel Gray, Chief Executive Officer of the Caravan, Camping and Touring Industry and Manufactured Housing Industry Association of NSW (CCIA), said the Gumnut Awards, the Association’s eco rating program, is an important initiative which recognises and supports commitment to responsible tourism practices.

‘”The Gumnut Award program assists businesses to develop environmentally and socially responsible management policies and practices that will lead the industry into a sustainable future” The program focuses on ten categories covering economic, social and environmental aspects with each level of the program: Bronze, Silver and Gold, representing increased commitment to sustainability” Ms Gray said.

“To achieve a Silver Gumnut Award, Trakka undertook formal training and successfully developed and implemented an Environmental Management Plan identifying specific goals in ten categories including energy efficiency, water and wastewater, biodiversity and local community”.

The CCIA developed the Gumnut Award program in 2002 to move the industry into a sustainable future and by assisting businesses achieve progress with social and environmental outcomes. Developed in consultation with the University of Western Sydney, all applications for the program are independently assessed to ensure credibility.
